As a former sprinter I am just in awe – 25 km means round about five hours of swimming and at the end only tenths of seconds differentiate between gold, silver and bronze. This is a must! In terms of synchronised swimming the final medals will be awarded.

From today on, pool swimmers and divers will test their shape for the first time. Will records be broken? Perhaps World Champion Katinka Hosszu over 400 m medley? And what will our Paul Biedermann achieve over 400 m free?

Power in the water – elegance on the board: Steffen Deibler’s first appearance will be 50m butterfly. I expect terrific images from 1m male divers – out of low height they will show us billions of rotations.

Take your marks – go! 200m freestyle: The forecasted thriller – one ultimate highlight during these Championships, when longterm opponents Paul Biedermann and Yannick Agnel will face each other in the pool. Sensations are promised next door in the synchro event from the 10 m platform – we are keeping our fingers crossed for our World Champions Patrick Hausding & Sascha Klein.

Eye to eye duel: Vice World Champion vs. Commonwealth Games Champion – Marco Koch versus Ross Murdoch over 200 m breaststroke. Will Marco grab the advantage of his German home crowd? Right next door – men compete from 3m – my advice – watch both!

The closing of these Championships is promising – eight exciting races in the pool and as the absolute blow off – the relay medleys. Always one of the most popular events during international competitions. Another fascinating highlight will take place in the SSE, when Italy’s grand dame Tania Cagnotto and Berlin’s Nora Subschinski will start their 3m performances. Good luck to Nora! Twelve wonderful days come to an end …
