For the first time in the 2014 European Championships, 17 year old Lithuanian swimmer Ruta Meilutyte dived into the water today. Meilutyte did not swim the 100m breast event at this competition, though she is the Olympic Champion of 2012. When she won the gold medal in London 2012, she became the first Lithuanian ever to win gold at the Olympics. But the young swimmer had appropriate reasons for not partaking: Only two days ago she was still in Nanjing (China) at the Youth Olympic Games, where she won gold in both the 50m and 100m breast events. Meilutyte is also the World Record Holder in both distances. In the semi-final of 50m breaststroke today, she also set a new Championship Record, the previous one was the last one held by Efimova. When Ruta Meilutyte dives into the water tomorrow afternoon, we suspect the record mentioned above isn’t the only one she is able to shatter.
